Foley's was established in 1949 when Paddy and Margaret Foley acquired the lease to 24 High Street, Killarney. Paddy operated a small grocer shop in the front of the building while Margaret, a school teacher, operated a café in the back of the building for the duration of the school summer holidays. During the 1950’s the business grew and rooms were added for accommodation and in 1963 the family purchased the larger licenced premises at 23 High Street where more bedrooms were added and a new restaurant opened.
From 1967 onwards Paddy and Margaret’s daughter Carol took a lead role in the family business and she was joined in the business by her husband Denis Hartnett in 1980. In 1984 Carol & Denis purchased 22 High Street followed by the purchase of 24 High Street in 1996. Much renovation work was done at these times including the addition of new bedrooms, a new reception and additional dining space. Foley's has evolved a lot during the past 75 years but one thing has always remained the same – our commitment to giving guests an enjoyable and memorable experience with us.
Foley's is considered an institution in Killarney, synonymous with excellent food & great service in a warm & welcoming setting. The recipient of multiple awards within the hospitality sector in recognition of the excellent experience we offer to guests, Foley's has had a rich history. Still led by Carol & Denis, the team at Foley's today is diverse & dynamic, called out regularly by our guests for making their stay and dining experience so memorable. All of the team at Foley's look forward to delighting our guests for many years to come.
